Perth Cardiovascular Institute recently hosted Heart of the Matter, our GP education night at The Breakwater, Hillarys. Dr Susan Kuruvilla and Dr Athula Karu led a night of learning focused on prevention, heart failure, and anticoagulation challenges.

We’re proud to support our referring doctors and the Perth community with expert care and collaborative education.

At Perth Cardiovascular Institute, we offer a comprehensive range of cardiac tests and services to help diagnose and manage heart conditions. Our services include:

Electrocardiogram (ECG): Records the heart’s electrical activity to identify abnormalities.

Echocardiogram (ECHO): An ultrasound of the heart to acquire images and short video clips to assess the heart muscle, valves, blood vessels, and blood flow.

Stress Echocardiogram (Treadmill or Dobutamine): Evaluates heart function with an echocardiogram before and after stress. The Treadmill Stress Echo involves exercise, while the Dobutamine Stress Echo uses medication to simulate the effects of exercise for patients unable to walk on a treadmill.

Exercise Stress Test (Treadmill ECG): A treadmill-based test that monitors heart activity with an ECG while under physical exertion.

Holter Monitoring (24hr, 48hr, 72hr, 7-day): Continuously records heart rhythms over a specified period to detect heart rhythm abnormalities.

Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring: Monitors blood pressure over 24 hours to assess fluctuations throughout the day.

A test request is required from your GP or specialist to be eligible for a Medicare rebate (subject to Medicare rulings).

Executives and dignitaries came together at Optus Stadium to learn the importance of heart health in women where often signs and symptoms of heart disease are largely ignored or diagnosed as symptoms of more benign issues.
Dr Matthew Best led a panel of female guests who relayed their own personal experiences of heart disease and how it affected their lives and how heart disease affects the women in our indigenous communities.

Founded by the European Resuscitation Council, and together with the Australia and New Zealand Council of Ambulance Authorities, Perth Cardiovascular Institute supports this initiative. The importance of early defibrillation and identification of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is one held close to our hearts. 🫀
